Elf? [Billy gives himself a moment to take stock of the X-Men he's aware of who might fit that description, and only one name is coming to mind.] ...Nightcrawler?

Yeah. Guess you've got all of us in your world, don't you?

[Good old blue boy. Billy's almost papa.]

Probably a lot more than you're used to, actually. Last I heard there were almost 200 mutants at the mansion.

[He'll just leave out the fact that that's a bad thing, eh-heh.]

[He snorts.]

Sounds like a headache.

Probably moreso for my world's Wolverine. He's with the Avengers, too, so there's a lot of location-hopping. Teleporting would be pretty useful for him!

Avengers and the X-Men? [he snorts, sort of a laugh.] Like I ain't got enough to do already with just the one.

Might be involved in more, who knows. He's kind of hard to keep track of, even for his teammates.

[He chuckles quietly at the tail end of his tease, but cuts himself off within a moment; he's starting to grow short of breath.]

[Wolverine stops moving. He can tell the kid is getting exhausted. And while he's all about pushing himself to his limit, he won't push people for his own sake.

Which is why he'll be letting go of Billy and pulling himself off.]

...hah... no, hang on, I can still-

[Billy tries to take a step towards Logan, reaching out as if to help, but his legs suddenly tremble and buckle in about two seconds flat, dropping him right to his knees. Apparently willpower is not, in fact, enough.]

Uh. I think... we might need some help.

[Logan catches himself against the wall when Billy goes down. At which point he lets himself slide to the floor.]

Well I didn't bring a journal. You made your point, so get going.

Billy wobbles on his knees for a moment, tries to stand, and then - after about three unsuccessful attempts - edges over to the closest wall and slumps against it.]

Sorry... think I just need a breather. My legs feel like Jello.

[Well Logan isn't going to berate him. Though one of his X-Kids would have totally lasted twice as long. Because he trains them up right or something. ~~Or he's full of shit.~~]

Sure. I ain't going anywhere.

[He's just a little behind on training, man.

Billy relaxes quietly for a long moment, giving his sore legs a rub-down, then glances cautiously over at Logan.]

...Are you mad? That I didn't leave right away, I mean.

There's a lot of things for me be pissed over, kid. That ain't exactly high on the list.

[Any of the X-Men would have done the same. Or at least tried to. Seeing as how he was in charge, they'd listen if he told them to leave him behind. Most of them anyway.]

[He probably will have to make a run for it once his legs start behaving, though. Until then, they're pretty much stuck.

He sits and stews and gets a bit angry with himself for being too damn stubborn for a moment, then slides a leg up to hug his knee to his chest. It helped with Rogue, so maybe...

Actually, speaking of which... I don't know if Rogue told you, but I'm a mutant, too.

[Well, there's a surprise for you. Here Logan thought there were just three mutants around here. And then this kid up and claims to be one himself. Cue staring.]

News to me. So all that magic stuff you're doing. That's your mutant power, ain't it?

[Billy nods, fingers twisting together in his jeans.]

That's the general assumption, yeah. It's not confirmed, but there's no other explanation.

Those are some serious powers you're packing, kid. Not many mutants have so diverse a skill set.

[Jean and Wanda come to mind, but even then, they don't get to just decide to have teleporting powers.]

...Trust me, I know. It's created all sorts of fun complications in my life.

[Which isn't exactly a complaint, but it's not entirely pleased, either.]

Welcome to the club, kid. You don't need to be told that being a mutant ain't exactly a picnic.

[Logan, Rogue, Remy... they've all suffered in their own different ways from being a mutant.]

So why the Avengers? I didn't think they ran with mutants so much.

Well... the Avengers were more local for me, and when I found out about my powers, the Institute wasn't really taking on new students. It's been kind of a rough year for mutants, so they had their own problems to deal with first.

[Understatement of the century, but he's not about to go into M-Day when he doesn't even have a proper explanation for it.]

We've always got problems. I've never known Xavier to turn out a student needing help.

[Unless they were, you know, not pretty. Or mean. Or jerks. Or he didn't much care for them at the time. But any other time, Chuck is a saint!]

I wasn't turned away, I just didn't think it was the best place for me to go.

[Outing himself as a mutant and getting stuck on that reservation while the government sorted out what the hell to do with them? No thanks.]

And the professor doesn't run the school anymore, or so I've heard.
