I'm going to go get a coffee. You ought to join me.

Right now? The coffee shop? I can meet you there.

[It's unusual to meet on a Wednesday, though. He's wondering what's up.]

Yes. I shall see you there.

[He's already there, at a table, with a book in his hands and his journal next to him.]

[It takes Billy a bit longer, since he has to walk there, but he was in the general area anyway, so before too much time passes he arrives at the shop, sliding into the opposite side of the booth.]

Hey, you. What're you reading?

[He closes the book and tucks it away.] Just a bit of fiction. Not anything all that interesting, I'm afraid.

You have been well, I trust?

[But fiction is always interesting...! But fine, fine.]

Pretty well, yeah. Half the team's missing right now, so I'm trying not to get too worked up, but otherwise...

[He shrugs.]

What about you? Anything happen to merit this, or did you just miss me?

Missing? Oh, have they all been taken?

[He grins.] Oh darling, I always miss you. [Stop being such an asshole, Loki.]

Though I had an interesting little conversation I thought to share.

[He opens his journal to a marked page and nudges it across the table to Billy.]

Kate and my brother have, yeah. Teddy's still around, otherwise I'd really be a mess.

[Billy glances at the journal page, caution entering his expression when he sees where it's coming from. He's honestly been avoiding all things Malnosso after his last abduction, and the mess it created for everyone involved, so it's with great reluctance that he reads what Loki pointed out. Still, it's impossible to ignore those words.]

...That... sounds more serious than a computer glitch.

Ah. If Teddy is ever taken, you know, I expect you to come to me, Billy. You ought not be alone for that.

[Yes, he is serious.]

Yes. I don't quite know what it means yet, but it strikes me as significant indeed.

[Billy hums a quiet, non-committal response; Loki would certainly hear about it sooner rather than later, if Teddy was captured, but since he isn't, he'd rather focus on the issue at hand. He flips back a page to see if it comes up anywhere else, and while it isn't the focus of everyone's reactions, Loki's response isn't singular. It earns another "hmm" out of Billy, as well as a muttered comment,]

Big ball of wibbly-wobbly, timey-wimey... stuff...

[Time paradox? Is that even possible here?]

Any theories?

...yes, basically.

[Loki shakes his head.]

Not yet. I need more than a single conversation with an idiot.

But what I think the most compelling question is...if this is truly time out of joint in their locale, is it but a single occurrence that will be corrected? Or will we soon be subject to this discontinuity ourselves?

That's what I'd like to know. And since we basically had to make our own calendar here, even if it does follow the Earth calendar apparently, how would we know if it was wrong? We're off by what, a couple of weeks now? It could take a long time before the differences start to show.

[What a puzzle. He'll be mulling over this one for a while.]

[Loki nods.]

Precisely. If there is a day we can know with certainty we were in sync on, then we could perhaps calculate the worst of it if it's an incremental change. But yes, we do not even know if it was instant or just a lack of synchronicity.

I do not trust either of these possibilities. We both already know the effort taken to shift space. Time is exponentially more difficult.

[Translation: if this is real, it's going to be big. And we might be standing in its way. And not able to escape.]

...Well... arguably, it might not be a new problem. I mean, it's a big deal, yeah, but maybe it's just a part of the world's nature that we haven't experienced before. We all come here from different time periods, right? And we go back to our own worlds at the exact moment we left it. So there's already some weird time-related stuff going on with the world.

There is a temporal discontinuity between this dimension and all others, I'd more say.

I'm far more concerned if there is such a discontinuity and it is local. Good things don't tend to happen in localized areas where time grows warped. Space might warp as well. [He smiles thinly.] And I assure you, it can be very unpleasant. Perhaps that is why I feel so concerned.

[But if there is some force out there causing this... such power.]

I wonder if there's even anything we can do about it. If it's some Shift gone haywire, or if it's the world itself... we already have so little control over what goes on here. What're we supposed to do if time itself is trying to fight with us, too?
