...Probably, yeah. But are they the kind of people you'd want to change for?

[He can understand the desire to change. But... change can't come from magic, or it doesn't mean anything. It's just cheating reality. That's all magic ever is.]

[He raises his eyebrows.]

If that person is Rogue, or myself, or you...?

God. If I ever ask you to change who you are for me, please punch me in the face.

[That doesn't sound like anything he'd do, but still. It's humbling to hear that he's one of the few to carry that much influence, but he doesn't have to like it.]

There's a big difference between changing behaviour, and changing personality. One's good. The other is yours, and yours alone.

Ah, but personality causes behavior, does it not? [He shrugs.] Ever have I been the trouble maker.

Troublemaking isn't so bad. People can generally handle that well enough. It's the whole genocide thing that folks take issue with.

[Loki laughs.] I learned from the best. And here I thought it was all right, so long as it was all bad people.

[The blood on his hands is nothing compared to that on Odin's, after all.]

That really depends on who you talk to, I guess.

[He doesn't expect to ever agree on this one, either, though.]

That would certainly be the crux of it. And when. And if they're feeling particularly hypocritical that day. [He shrugs. He really doesn't care, at this point.]

But I'd daresay most don't even handle a bit of trouble all that well.

...True enough. The heroic types can be kind of stick-in-the-mud-ish... I know I'm guilty of it myself sometimes. I hate pranks.

[Too many locker room encounters in his childhood that were just hilarious to everyone but himself. That was before things devolved into punching sessions, though, and even he's not sure what he prefers.]

Steve Rogers is one of the worst offenders at that. [Loki rolls his eyes and does a beautifully mocking impression:] "If you're this bored maybe we should find a way to occupy your time."

[He has plenty to occupy his time, a bit of which is annoying Steve Rogers. Ugh. As if a human or anyone else has any business telling him what to do.]

[He shouldn't laugh at that, he really shouldn't. But even Billy can't help cracking a smile. God, that really did sound like Cap.]

Didn't he give you any good suggestions? Puzzles? Bottle-cap collecting? Handing food out to the poor? I could see you doing that.

Perhaps he'll teach me to bake an apple pie.

Ha... sounds good. We'll make a real American out of you in no time.

[Dryly:] I can feel the righteousness surging.

I can sing the national anthem for you, if you want. He'd be so impressed.

I haven't much of a singing voice. So that is quite all right.

[Billy just smiles and nudges another pawn forward, finally. His mood is pointedly better than it was before, at least.]

Well... the good news is, if he's trying to give you advice instead of punching you in the face or something, he must like you a little.

How bizarre. Is that actually good news?

I would think so. I mean, I generally prefer the one over the other, but that's just me.

I'm just trying to think what kind of horrible mistake I made in a previous mistake that might cause Steve Rogers to like me at all.

You should ask him. It would bug him so much.

[It's a step above hurting or killing people, so Billy has no qualms about encouraging Loki to pester the Avengers, nope.]

[Loki grins.] An excellent point.

I have those on occasion. Just do me a favour and give a full report on his expression if you do it. The potential is amazing.

Perhaps I shall take pictures.
