Whatever card you want! Just don't show me, memorize it. And put it back here-
[He cuts the deck, making a space for it to be replaced with the others.]
no subject
Already done.

[Billy shuffles the deck again, still not looking at it, then pulls one out seemingly at random, discarding the rest.]
So, is this it?
[It totally isn't.]
no subject
Well. He hoped nobody would notice. Jason nods, a grin on his face.]
Yeah, it is. Not bad.
no subject
Either way, thank god for improv.]
Are you sure? I feel like the cards just aren't cooperating-
[He gives the card a flick of his fingers and a very slight twist of the wrist, and suddenly the card changes in a flash- and now it's the card that was chosen.]
I guess I'm having an off day today, geez.

[He offers a quirky grin.]
You're too nice, though. What if I'd really been wrong?

Definitely driving. No offense, but I wouldn't be caught dead using public transit, and it's too far to walk.
no subject
Alright. Lead on, then.
no subject
But yes, William will lead the way out of the school to his car. Some fancy sporty thing characteristic of a Stark, of course.]
Ever been in one of these?
no subject
Hey, you're the one who offered me a dollar. Most of the time I don't take more than a few pennies. Besides, you're one to talk about wealthy aristocrat, when you're one day out of your new role as family moocher.
[What is she even doing back here?]
no subject
[Oh, it is so on. Billy, you're about to have a tiny girl all up in your business, with her hands on her hips and a very displeased look on her face.]
Look, Willy. I didn't ask Mr. Stark to let me move in. I tried to turn him down. The only reason I accepted is because it's a hell of a lot nicer than where I was before.
[She points down at the ground.] This corner? I slept here the day my mom threw me out on the street. So you'll have to excuse me if I'm a little defensive about who gets to panhandle around here. You don't deserve this spot.
no subject
Okay, he... actually does not have a proper retort for that. The very concept of having to sleep on the street is completely alien to him, and not something he really thinks about, either, so hearing it stated so plainly just makes him uncomfortable. He does have the decency to look somewhere between sheepish and ashamed, glancing aside and not meeting her gaze. He can't even get mad at the stupid nickname, even though he hates it.]
...I don't... really take that much. Pennies, mostly. When I get something bigger I give it back to someone else who's watching, with coin tricks. It's not like I'm here for the money.
[Not with a family and an allowance like his.]
no subject
[But okay, maybe he just really didn't know better. Given the lifestyle he grew up, it made sense for him to be kind of dumb about how real people lived or something, right? She folds her arms and huffs a bit.]
...look. Whatever, okay? I mean, I'm the one "invading" on your "spot" now, so I guess I can't get too mad at you for being here.
[She's still gonna keep the nickname though.]
no subject
...You're not going to tell anyone about this, are you?
no subject
[The nickname got worse.]
no subject
Don't call me that!

[Y! Mostly because William doesn't like to risk being spotted outside of the magic act, since it really is a bit of a silly get-up even on the poor streets where no one should care about appearances. He has his pride, both in his own family and individually. He's also trying to sneak off and meet up with Ted, and he's glancing around for him instead, so he doesn't even notice Shikamaru coming until it's too late.]
no subject
like a ninja.]Heeey, little brother.
no subject
Sh- [shit] Shikamaru...! What're you doing here!?
[Oh god, he knows, he can't even hide the cape or hat or anything-]
no subject
Were you dropped on your head when you were born? I live around here.

no subject
Oh, cool it already. I don't see what you're fussing about. That was a slick show you had there. I'm glad I got to see it.
no subject
You... you are? For real?
[He's not sure if he should be terrified of Shikamaru's compliment, or terrified. He could be genuine, or just indulging him to hold it over his head later.]
