[Oh god, is that what it sounds like?]

...I need to learn Asgardian to ride him?

Just a few verbal commands. They make things easier.

[His look plainly says, "Billy, stop being such a wimp, I know you can do this."]

...And it really can't leave him or hurt anyone else if I give it to you?

[He's so very cautious, but at the same time she seems really sincere. It's a hard call to make.]

[Don't look at him like that, he's a fantasy language enthusiast, he'd normally jump at the chance. He's just not used to having to do it in front of a native speaker. Kind of like trying to speak Sindarin in front of an elf.]

Um... okay. Anstå. Sorry.

[It isn't half-bad an attempt, at least. And he starts to head around to Vakri's side to start getting him set up, though he will definitely need help with this part. He can do the bridle since he's done care for the horse before, just... not the rest.]

[Loki nods approvingly. Good enough for now.] I'll teach you a few more commands as we continue on.

[And he does help Billy get the tack figured out and properly put on Vakri.]

Normally he will keep an eye on you and follow you, if you're out and about. But if you wish him to follow closely, as when you lead him fromt he stable, Følg.

[At least he knows this part well enough, so it's not scary yet. It's not something he's entirely comfortable with yet - Vakri's a big horse, and he's only done this a few times during Loki's last absence - but it's familiar.

He gives Vakri's nose a light pat and takes the reins, murmuring the command and starting towards the door.]

[Loki leads the way out into the exercise yard. Once there he tells Vakri to stay.]

All right, let us get you into the saddle, Billy. Foot in the stirrup, grab the cantle... that bit there, yes. And I'll give you a boost. Just concentrate on getting your leg up and over.

[What could possibly go wrong?]

[Let's make a list:

-he could trip and fall
-he could trip and fall and accidentally zap Vakri, who could then (justifiably) trample him
-he could kick Loki in the face
-and then get impulse-murdered horribly
-and then Teddy would get involved
-really it just wouldn't end well
-why is he getting on a horse again

Thankfully none of these things happen, although he very nearly slides off the other side once he's up there. Mostly what happens is he hunches over the saddle and clutches the pommel, feeling very high up and very not in control of the situation.]

...Have I ever mentioned that I used to be afraid of heights? Because I think I'm regressing.

[Addendum: he could throw up on the big scary Asgardian horse. And/or Loki.]

You're doing just fine, Billy. Sit up a bit straighter. [He circles around, prodding Billy a bit to improve his position in the saddle. Not perfect or even good, but serviceable.]

Vakri has been trained well and has a smooth gait. He will do what he can to keep you on his back. If you fall off of him, it will likely be your own fault. [Loki grins.] Just don't let him jump any fences. He thinks that's a game.

Have care to not cling too tightly with your knees. It may confuse him.

Um. Okay. [It feels like a lot to remember, but he blames that on the fact that being on a horse has him scatterbrained and mortified. A bit of an adjustment of his posture makes him feel... well, not okay, but a little bolder, perhaps, and he tries to loosen up. The last thing he wants to do is confuse his current mode of transportation, particularly because of the whole falling-off comment.]

Is there an Asgardian phrase for "please don't kill me"?

Not unless someone interferes. [ The prince's sword was supposed to be the only thing that could shatter Mytho's heart, but his heart shards scattered again when he arrived in Luceti. She still didn't understand how that had happened, but she had no reason to believe the shards wouldn't stick. ]

Doesn't exist in the language. You are supposed to be prepared to die gloriously at any moment, Billy.

[He does another round of poking and adjusting of Billy's posture.]

All right, let's walk a bit, just so you can understand the feeling of riding. [He tells Vakri to follow him and begins to walk around the exercise yard.]

[He's not sure how promising that is, but it's not like this place is full of guarantees, and she's already offering to take the damn thing away. He doesn't want to push his luck.

With a quiet sigh and a nod, he crouches down by the couch and hovers his hand over the shard, sparks flickering around his hands to dissipate the shield. Once it's gone, he backs off.]

Okay... it's all yours.

Pretty sure there's nothing glorious about breaking your neck falling off a horse.

[He manages to keep from doing that as they move, though, gripping the reins so tightly his knuckles are white, but staying upright somehow. It's an odd feeling, a big animal body moving under him, and he opts to focus on Loki instead. As much as possible, anyway.]

You're not supposed to do that either, if you're a warrior of Asgard. Do try to relax, Billy. Vakri isn't going to try to knock you off, so the only way you'll fall off is if you try.

Yeaaah, unfortunately I'm a warrior of Midgard, and our battle creed tends to be "try not to die". It's not quite as glorious.

[Though it means running away is more acceptable. In general.]

Oh, I'm not particularly enamored of the culture of Asgard. I wouldn't be alive if I were, I should think. [Loki smiles, continuing to walk Vakri around. The idea now is to get Billy to talk and thus distract him from this silly fear he has.]

I just thought you'd like to know since you find such things interesting.

[ She watches his magic curiously until the shield disappears. Then, she kneels down and scoops the shard into her hands. ]

I shall waste no time returning this shard to its rightful place. Thank you for not destroying it.

Incredibly interesting, believe me. I'm mostly protesting you using my fanboyism against me.

The talking thing is working, though. He seems more relaxed, bit by bit, the longer this goes. He's still not exactly at home on the horse's back, but it's not as terrifying as it initially seemed. Just... weird, mostly.]

Don't thank me for that- it's not like it didn't cross my mind. But I didn't know what it would do, and... I didn't know how, either.

[With how trying to fix it with his magic wound up giving he and Teddy some backlash, he figured it wasn't worth it until he had more info. He's glad he waited, now.]

[ She straightens before dipping into a curtsy. ]

I will not forget this kindness. I hope we may cross paths again.

Unfair to blame me when it is your most obvious and adorable weakness, Billy. [He grins.]

And that is why I refuse the idea thatyou will not enjoy riding an Aesir horse once you've gotten over this temporary fear. He's even the right sort of horse, since you are a magician.

[...Thor's horse would eat you for breakfast, Billy.]

Uh... right, sure. just... hopefully in better circumstances. Thanks again.

[What a weird experience, though.]

[He can believe that. Even without seeing it, he can believe that. In fact, thanks to that Asgard book Loki had given him, he even has a mental image for what a non-magician-carrying horse looks like. And that's not even getting into Odin's monster horse...

What is it with people calling him cute and whatnot, though? Teddy does it too. He's not cute, dammit 8(]

Honestly, I'm surprised you're letting me ride Vakri, more than anything else. I thought he wouldn't let anybody but you do this?

I'll be gone two weeks and I don't want my boy here getting fat and lazy. You and Rogue are the only ones I would really trust with him.

[He grins.]

He won't, unless I tell him otherwise. He knows you are all right now.
