[Billy wakes up for the first time since the portal drama feeling nauseous, exhausted, and heartsick: sort of like waking from a long nightmare, only he can't recall dreaming at all. Instead of being at home in his own world and his own bed, he's still in Luceti, and what's worse is that he's alone. His magic doesn't seem to be working, either. Panic sets in, and... well...

After a bit of trouble-at-home, and a resolution that leaves him feeling even more weary, the reality of his (or rather, their) situation really sinks in: the portal didn't work. And while none of the people involved in the execution of said plan are in any great state of being today, he seems to be the only one who's up and talking and available to explain the situation to the general public (at least, to those who didn't witness what a spectacular disaster it was), and that leaves announcing it up to him.

Unfortunately.

He delays it as much as he feels that he can, perusing the journal in the desperate hope that someone else has done it for him, then wondering if it would be better to wait for someone more in-the-know to do it, until finally he steps up to the plate. Now or never.]

...Hey everyone. I'm sure a lot of you already heard, but for those that haven't, Tony and Jane's big escape portal didn't work. It kind of backfired yesterday, and...

[His voice trails off in the beginnings of a more distraught tone, so he pauses to compose himself.]

Nobody died? I mean, we've got that going for us. For what it's worth. But no one went home, either. The whole thing was a bust. No point in even keeping it a secret anymore.

One last thank you to everybody who gave up their mission points to get parts for it, though. I don't think it was a waste or anything - I mean, trying's better than sitting around and doing nothing, and something definitely happened, so we at least pushed a few of their buttons - but...

[Ugh, why did he think this was a good idea?]

...sorry it wasn't what we thought it would be. That's all.

[After that he really just wants to curl up in bed and pretend to be unconscious for the next several days, but that's not particularly responsible, so he'll have to settle for making it a few hours instead. It's the little things in life.]

You lost your magic?

[That's odd and a bit uncomfortable to Richard, as a mage himself. He's not sure how he would feel to suddenly have that part of him removed and he's not sure he WANTS to know.]

I assume this is only a temporary side-effect of whatever it was that happened. But either way, I am glad you weren't injured.

[She nods, and perhaps it's a bit telling that she's the one trying to look reassuring.]

You said something happened, so it wasn't totally a bust.

So when people are ready to try again, it'll definitely go better. Trial and error, right?

I could always use a cure spell if it's needed.

It is quite pointless. What is their purpose? Use us for their battles? Study our behavior within a contained area while toying with our minds?

Perhaps I shall ask the man who is not the CEO of the Malnosso. We are friends through pen. Pen pals, you see?

I will return to floor five soon. I think a great night of watching movies and eating popped corn is in order.

[ She flaps her way in and lands in front of him. She's about four feet tall, and has a disproportionately large head. Also, a not unimpressive wingspan - it certainly looks larger than Rainbow Dash's. ]

A pony? That seems to be the general reaction. [ She chuckles. ] It's okay, you can say it. I'm starting to get used to the stares.

[Good.] No problem. Name's Spencer, by the way.

[Well, that doesn't go entirely unnoticed.]

Ha... looks like I'm not the only tired one. You must've been kept busy looking after everyone.

I... guess that's true. Healing magic's convenient like that.

That might be what happens, yeah. Assuming we can actually fix what went wrong, and that might take longer than we'd like.

Still, I can't see us giving up so easily. Sooner or later someone will figure out a way to get back.

...Well, I was going to say "hey, you're that pony I talked to over the journal", since I never got your name, but it sounded pretty rude in my head. And technically you're not the first pony I've met.

[Not that it gets any less weird to see My Little Ponies wandering around in real life, but he's adjusted to the realism of Luceti somewhat over the last year or so.]

[Penpals with the Malnosso? This he's got to see. Though perhaps that's something worth exploring later, when he actually feels like discussing the Malnosso at all. Right now he'd be happier forgetting about it all.]

May I pick a movie? Perhaps we can make this a marathon and we can combine this with building a fortress of blankets.

It seems I wasn't fit to raise him according to their computers. So they've moved him to another enclosure somewhere.

[He accepts the hoof for a shake, if a bit awkwardly; he'd never done that before, at least.]

Yeah, that's good too. So... maybe something that's easy to eat? In case aforementioned loved ones are hurt or sick. I don't know all the damage that's been done thanks to the portal, but I know it's not good.
