Really?

[Jack had told Sabriel when she'd first arrived that there were no bad things here in Luceti, no shambling figures that would drag people away in the night but she couldn't help but still be a little afraid. But if Billy says there's nothing to fear, then she believes him.]

Okay...oh! [Sabriel unslings her backpack and rests it in her lap, looking up at the older boy with an almost mischievous grin, holding it open for Billy to see; inside among a sweater and a juice box there are at least ten chocolate bars.]

Look! I found chocolate!

[Pfft, that is a lot of chocolate. Someone's going to be on a sugar rush all day.]

Wow, you found the mother-load, that's for sure. Was that at the store?

[It's during the day when Teddy comes home with several things. A food and water bowl, a scratching post, a few little toys, the appropriate food, a litter box, and a few grooming tools all in a bag and carried easily in one hand, and in the other is a pet carrier. He doesn't go too far inside; he sets down the items, then opens up the carrier, at first ducking his head to smile and quietly coo at what's inside before he goes about setting everything up where he thinks are good places for them to be.

Inside the carrier is a black kitten, about two months old and sitting near the back. Teddy knows how it goes. The girl's separated from her mother and is in an entirely new place, and he knows to leave her alone and let her explore on her own. Still, he can't help stopping about every three minutes to look inside, a giddy little grin on his lips every time he does.

He just hopes Billy loves her as much as Teddy already does.

Near evening, the kitten is out and about, still a little cautious, yet warming up to her environment and the boy she's come home with. Teddy's sitting on the floor with his hand out and fingers wiggling, letting the kitten bat at them and chew on them once they're caught. And - jeez, her claws and teeth might be small, but they're still pretty sharp.]

Who do you think you are, Black Panther? Come on, tch tch tch tch...

[Billy, on the other hand, is totally unprepared for the little surprise he has bundled up in his coat, and the whole way home (with one hand carrying the dinner he'd gone out to fetch and the other resting awkwardly on his stomach, and him wondering how weirdly pregnant he must look to anyone passing by) he's wondering just how stupid an idea this is. He's not ready for a little ball of fluff running around his domain and stealing affection from his boyfriend, dammit, and it's not like he's agreed to keep it or anything, just...

...it was in the cold, looking so cute and pitiful and frozen and he couldn't just leave it there...

...goddammit. He just knows this won't end well.

Still, he doesn't give it more than a few moments of hesitation before letting himself into the apartment, about to call out to see if anyone's home when he hears some very off noises coming from the direction of the living room. What the heck...?]

Teddy? You here?

[Sorry your boyfriend has melted due to a noise the kitten made

Well, not really, but he certainly looks smitten enough with the little mew she made while reaching for his fingers. When he hears his boyfriend's voice, though, he looks over his shoulder with a bright grin, then turns forward again to gently scoop her up, one arm under her back legs and the other against her back as he holds her against his chest.]

Yeah, I'm here.

[And now to turn to him, showing him what's in his arms. The kitten, now seeing that Billy's here, stares at the new arrival, as if wondering what in the world a new human is doing in her space.]

Surprise?

There is a cat in his apartment.

What in the world is a cat doing in his apartment.

He's honestly not sure how to respond, standing there with soggy boots and a poofy coat and food that's getting colder the longer he holds it. He's staring down the cat just as much as she's staring him down, with an oddly similar suspicion that sends the message, "who are you and why are you in my territory?"

...it is awfully cute, though. Apparently that's his weakness today.]

That's... definitely a surprise, yeah. Uh. Why, though?

[Seriously, why are you holding a cat, bf.]

This is one of the kittens Law's cat had. [He'll just go ahead and shift his hold on the kitten, freeing up one arm, and take that dinner out of his boyfriend's hand, seeing how he's not doing anything with it.] She was one of the last ones, and she was the smallest out of all of them, so... well, I kind of got her with you in mind.

[More like "the both of us", but that would sound a little cheesy. And now the kitten seems to have accepted that Billy is in her territory, because now she's eying the food. Because it must be for her.]

[Billy keeps eyeing the cat, tentatively reaching out towards it, against his better judgment. Why would he get a cat with Billy in mi-

Teddy. Tell me you didn't just bring home a black cat for a witch.

Well, you've got to admit. It is ridiculously appropriate.

[Truth be told, he hadn't realized it until after he claimed the kitten. But he found it hilarious enough to just keep that as his reason.

The little feline, meanwhile, stretches its neck and sniffs at the air towards Billy's outstretched hand. Come on, human, you can do it...!]

Appropriate. Right.

[Billy snorts quietly, but the sniffing head is just too alluring, so he finally finishes the stretch and lets her sniff his fingers before brushing them through the fur on the top of her head.

[Who's judging? Teddy's pretty damn happy with this development, and he just holds her still while she shuts her eyes and leans her head up and - yes, purrs. Looks like she's pretty happy, too.]

So. I think she likes you.

[A-awwww, she's purring... he's never owned a cat, so he honestly didn't think it would be that easy, wow. He keeps petting her like that, stroking and scratching wherever she seems to enjoy it the most, though his eyes are drawn up to Teddy at the comment, fighting a tiny smile.]

So how long have you been planning this, anyway?

Since we went over to show them how to use their laptop. You know, the day after Slenderman tried to eat our faces. She just wasn't old enough then.

[And while a cat is not the same as having two little brothers, it's still a responsibility that he thinks Billy might appreciate and has secretly missed, what with having to care for someone littler in the family.

... But now his eyes are drawn down to Billy's stomach, head tilting slowly to look at the lump there. ~~Billy are you pregnant~~]

[~~shush it's totally a poofy coat~~ Billy purses his lips and nods; he does remember that, and he remembers hearing about the kittens, too. They'd been cute, what little he'd seen of them, but since they weren't his he hadn't really wanted to get attached. He hadn't even given it much thought beyond that day, but Teddy... apparently he had.

Well, as usual, his boyfriend is amazing. He shouldn't even be surprised anymore.]

Geez, you should've at least talked about it with me first, T...

[Though that would have admittedly ruined the surprise. And his expression isn't exactly saying "take her back", either.]

...So are you gonna let me hold her or what?

... Oh, yeah.

[Maybe Billy's just holding a bag under there. Nevertheless, Teddy shifts his grip carefully so that he can lean over and hold his arm out, getting the kitten within Billy's reaching range. Not for the first time today, he marvels over how tiny she is and how gentle he has to be, considering his strength. But she hasn't complained so far, so he guesses he's doing it right.]

You can name her, too. To make up for not talking to you about it first.

Ha... you really are giving a black cat to a witch. Geez.

[Billy finally cracks a smile, his expression both ironic and musing, and he accepts the kitten, holding her carefully and tucking her up against his chest when she starts to squirm. It takes a bit of shifting and petting, but she finally settles again, curling up in the crook of his elbow, starting to purr again as Billy scratches under her chin.

...Oh god. She really is too cute. Too cute. He's not gonna make it.]

Appropriate.

[The tone sounds way more affectionate than the teasing one he took earlier. How could it not be, when he's witnessing his boyfriend slowly fall for and start to care for a tiny little cat?

Plus she really is cute. Guh. Teddy made a good choice indeed.]

Be careful. Don't you know that a witch with a cat companion is a deadly combination? We'll turn you into a frog if you keep it up.

[The kitten doesn't seem nearly so keen on making malicious threats towards boyfriends, nuzzling eagerly against his hand to guide him to scratch her where she wants. He's so lost in the enthused petting that he forgets that he has another passenger- at least until he accidentally jostles the bump at his stomach and it squirms, setting free a muffled whine. This gets both his and the kitten's attention, and when the lump wriggles upwards and a tiny black nose pokes up through the top, it gets a playful bop.]

Oh geez, that's right, you're still...

If you kiss me to change me back, I don't think I'd mind.

[He gives Billy a little smirk at that, although it ends up fading to a look of confusion over the squirming, and then the whine. That's definitely not the sound of a hungry stomach, and he's not sure what else could -

Except for that black nose, apparently, and the tuft of fur he can see surrounding it. He goes still for a moment, jaw slacking slightly, before he leans in to pull on Billy's coat, just enough to open the top further, and try to see what's in there.]

Billy, what...

[Oh, good, Teddy noticed.]

Um- yeah, hang on-

[He manages to scoot the kitten over to free up one arm, using it to unzip his coat a few inches and free a golden-furred head and a pair of sleepy eyes attached to the aforementioned nose.]

...Can you take him? I don't want him to pee on my shirt.

So you're gonna let him pee on me instead...

[He's distracted, though, because he's busy plucking the puppy from Billy's coat to hold in his arms instead, where he stares down at those sleepy brown eyes.

He loves cats, but he really loves dogs, and has always wanted one for himself. Unfortunately, he and his mother couldn't really afford any pets, least of all a big dog like he preferred. Plus, he's pretty sure big dogs wouldn't like small apartments in a cramped place like New York very much.

The puppy stares right back at him, then yawns, and Teddy freely allows the smile to come up.]

Where'd you find him?

[Billy goes about juggling the cat with one arm while he tries to shrug out of his coat. She only puts it up for a few seconds before the claws her way stubbornly up to perch on his shoulder, where she sits primly while he eyes her. Someone's apparently the boss now...]

It's more like he found me. I was only my way home when I heard him crying in the woods. No idea where he came from, but he looked like he was turning into a dogsicle so I figured we could at least give him a warm place to sleep.

[He hadn't been sure if Teddy would want to keep him or not, but seeing him now... oh boy. They're doomed, aren't they.]

[The smile on his face grows at the explanation, and Teddy finally takes his eyes off the puppy and up to Billy. That's his amazing boyfriend, he thinks as he leans in to kiss Billy's cheek, mindful of the kitten and her apparent new territory.]

That's my boyfriend. Saving the world, one dog at a time.

[And now his attention is back on the little dog, who's lifting his head up to lick at Teddy's chin. Oh god, oh god he's too cute, he just can't]

Ha ha - Hey, boy - That's right, a superhero saved you from the cold, huh?

[Billy scoffs quietly, though he's smiling as he accepts the kiss, bumping gently against Teddy. The kitten seems to have noticed the puppy again and is eyeing it suspiciously now, with that weirdly curious expression animals get when they're not sure whether to pounce or flee.]

Yeah, right, I'm a real hero. My next trick will be to save a kitten from a tree.

[He eyes the kitten for a moment, then takes a few steps back before she tries to pounce the puppy or something.]

...Orrr maybe I should stick to purse-snatching for now.

Mmhmm, they said I could take them so I got a bunch of them!

[Not that she really knows what any of them are but she holds the bag out to Billy.]
