Okay. So what's the plan?

[And how can I help? he doesn't ask- in part because he figures Loki will tell him, but also because he's thinking he won't particularly like his role in it, even without killing involved.]

I can craft a spell that will allow me to fold all of the books into the other dimensional space where I tend to keep my things. And hold them there temporarily. But what I lack is enough sheer power.

[...Yep. Definitely not liking where this is going.]

Um. You do remember I'm not using magic right now, right...?

[He raises an eyebrow.]

I'll be the one using the magic, Billy. You'll be merely lending it to me.

...Yeah, but I'd still be... you know... involved. I'm six months out of practice here, and...

[The dangers of this is pretty damn obvious to him, why can't Loki see it? Why can't anyone see it?]

[Dryly:] I have confidence in your ability to play the part of battery, Billy. Even if you do not.

[He fidgets awkwardly. It's all well and good to have Loki believe in him, but...]

My magic is powered by how much I believe in it. No offense, but it's not your confidence that matters here.

Well, do you believe that something needs to be done about the owl in the library?

...Um. Sure, yeah, but...

[Is that really going to be enough?]

[He gives Billy an evil smile.] And do you believe that a prank would be better than me, say, baking the owl into a pie?

[WELL THAT ESCALATED QUICKLY]

O-of course I do! Geez!

[He pats Billy on the shoulder.]

Well, then I need your help.

[Arrrgh, he was totally just talked into a corner.]

...Isn't there someone else? Someone reliable?

[Luceti has plenty of powerhouses, there has to be a decent mage available to help.]

[FINISH HIM]

No one else that I trust as I trust you.

...Fine. I'll try...

[FATALITY]

[Loki gives Billy that big brother asshole smile and grips his shoulder in that special Asgardian way, if toned down to an unbruising level.]

I know you'll do better than simply try.

Hah. Come and get me, then.

[It's a bit redundant, considering Teddy already is, but he can't help it, wiggling his body a bit to scootch closer to his partner. With Teddy close enough to him again, Billy reaches out and lets his hands travel along the blond's chest, then down, tugging at the band of his khakis in response to where Teddy's hand is. He's impatient and doesn't really want to wait his turn.]

Whatever you say, Yoda.

[He feels totally swindled.]

I'll ask Teddy to come with us. If you're casting a big spell and I'm getting my magic drained, we'll need someone to watch out backs.

That would be very helpful indeed. That number of books is sure to be heavy.

Heavy?

[Wait, that sounds bad. There's a lot of books.]

I thought they were gonna be in, uh, dimensional space or whatever. Are you still going to feel it?

[The day before, they'd talked about going through with the camping trip. Just some days away from the village, just the two of them and the quiet of nature as they go back to Billy's roots. A locating spell was simple enough, but it had been over six months since Billy used a spell of any kind. They'd both thought it best to go back to the way they started, when they were holed up in Teddy's room back at home with his mom's self-help books scattered around them like some kind of field-effect circle.

This time, there wouldn't be the occasional honk of the horn or chatter drifting up to his window or a dog barking from below. It's a zen Teddy still isn't quite used to, but this is for Billy. And he's sure there'll be something good about being out in the wilderness where no one can bother them.

Teddy already has everything packed - had done so the night before, really, since he knew he'd sleep in that morning. So he sits on the couch instead, indulging a curled up Misty in his lap while he glances at the room where Billy is.]

Almost ready in there?

Just a minute!

[Inside, Billy's fussing over a backpack, chewing worriedly on his lower lip and wondering what he's forgetting. He's gone completely tech-and-communication-free; the journal's kind of mandatory since it'd follow him if he left it anyway, but otherwise,his stuff's getting left in the apartment- phone, computer, anything that might distract him from what he's trying to do. Misty's taken care of, and Optimus is coming along. There's food and clothes and camping supplies all set and ready to go, he's got a map of the mountain area tucked away with a compass in the bag's side pocket in case they get lost in the vast woods (though Teddy could just fly up if they were really stuck), so all that's really left is... the books.

He's got them laid out on the bed, with another bag beside it waiting for him to stuff them in and get moving, but he'd wanted to take stock before he left, but sure he was taking the right ones. Self-help books had been his anchor in the beginning, the first step on the path to learning everything else he'd discovered since he gained his powers, but he'd left them somewhat in the dust the last year or so. Ego and confidence and experience had gotten in his way, and he'd forgotten a lot of things. He'd paid the price for that, and he wasn't inclined to forget or screw it up again.

He reads the titles carefully, recalls the lessons contained within, and makes a decision. He chooses a set of them, as many as he thinks he can carry in his bag, and then, impulsively, stuffs a couple more in until the pack is bulging with corners poking out everywhere. It's going to be pointy and uncomfortable to carry, but to him, that's lesson number one. Sometimes adversity is what you need to face in order to become successful. He'd read that somewhere. Probably in these very books.

Decision made (or not made, really, since apparently he'd decided he needed them all) he slings both bags on his back and carries them out the door, nodding to Teddy.]

Okay... ready. Let's do this.

[Before I chicken out.]

Heavy is perhaps not the right word. But it is a lot of objects, a lot of mass, a great many atoms to keep from being lost in uncoordinated otherspace.

That makes more sense.

[Though it does make it all sound more difficult as well.]

With that much to carry, do you think we'll be okay?

So long as you lend me the raw power, yes. The strain of coordinating it all shall be on me, and I am equal to that task.
